Alumni of College of Engg., Pune are our greatest strength. Lot of help, co-operation is always available from them to students of U.G. and P.G. and to the College and they take pride in involving themselves in the several activities. As Executive Director of Alumni Association, I am presenting some details of our Association.
§ Established in the year 1993.
§ Alumni Association is registered under Society Act (Reg.No.8844, March 16, 1994) and Trust Act (No.F/9278/Pune, May 5,1994) as Charitable Educational Trust.
§ Currently 6250 Alumni are registered as Life Members.
§ Mr.R.Vasudevan, Chairman & Managing Director of Vascon Engineers is our President.
§ Prof. M.R. Khadilkar, former Principal & Director of Vishwakarma Institute, Pune is our Vice President.
§ 13 Alumni from different fields are on Governing Body of Association. Governing Body members meet regularly every month for discussing the points on the Agenda and take decisions.
§ Alumni Association’s Accounts are audited every year and IT returns are filed.
§ 80 G Certificate from IT Department (No. Pn/CIT-I/12A(a)/80G/14/2006-07, dt:10/5/2006) is obtained for claiming rebate on Tax on the 50% amount donated to the Association. The certificate is valid upto 31st March, 2009.
§ We are eligible to receive Foreign Contribution from Alumni Abroad as per provisions of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act –1976 (Regn. No. 083930427, dtd: 9.8.2004)
§ At present our corpus fund is around 60 lakhs and the expenses are met through the yearly interest earned and the total funds available with Alumni Asso. is around 80 Lakhs. Every year student membership amount of Rs.250/- each is collected by COEP through their fees and transferred to Alumni Association. In four years, total amount of Rs.1000/- per student is credited to Alumni Association, so that, after graduating, they automatically become life members.
§ Most of the amount is deposited in bank FDs and Mutual Funds and the interest accrued is utilized for the objects of the Association and to meet up administrative expenses.
§ Annual General meeting is called every year around 15th Sept. i.e. Engineers cum Foundation Day.

§ We felicitate few distinguished Alumni every year. More than 70 Alumni were felicitated so far.
§ Best Outgoing Student Award of COEP is instituted by our Alumnus Mr. Sharad Kulkarni and the award is cited to one student every year on Engineers Day Function.
§ Scholarships have been instituted for poor and deserving students and for Postgraduate Research Work.
§ A separate corpus is developed for ‘S.B. Joshi Memorial Award’ which is cited to one outstanding person in the field of Bridge and Structural Engineering. This coveted Award consists of Prize Money of Rs.10000/- , citation, scroll of Honour, and Memento. Memorial Lecture is arranged on that day.
Another feature of the programme is the technical essay competition on the subjects related to Bridge and Structural Engineering. The technical papers are invited from UG/PG students of civil engineering from all Engg. Colleges in Maharashtra. The best technical papers under UG/PG categories are given prizes and certificates.
§ Our Alumni are regularly involved in our Examination system, Curriculum development. Their contribution is notable. They provide opportunities to our students for undergoing Sandwich course, Industrial Implant Training, Vocational Training etc.
§ Lecture Series on varied topics are arranged by our Alumni to supplement the curriculum like ISO 9000, Kaizen, Basics of management, Productivity improvement, Marketing skills, Entrepreneurship development.
§ Special short term programmes as per needs of teaching faculty and students are arranged.
§ Alumni assign projects to U.G. and P.G. students to be completed in their industries and provide all help in completion of them.
§ Alumni prepare the current students for competitive examinations like GRE, GATE, CAT, UPSC and MPSC free of cost.
§ Alumni also conduct lectures on Career Guidance, Interview techniques, Communication skills, Group discussion etc. for their all-round development. They also provide guidance to 12th Std. Students for selecting Engineering Courses.
§ We started doing networking of our foreign based students to establish strong link, so that current students can get guidance in choosing Universities, Courses abroad. Alumni visiting India in vacation conduct lectures on their experiences and give first hand information.
§ Alumni in U.S.A established ‘COEP Charitable Foundation, U.S.A’ and developed their website namely www.coepfoundation.org . The Corporate office of the Foundation is at SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
COEP Charitable Foundation, USA, Board members and Governing Body of Alumni Asso. of India discuss the developmental proposals in respect of COEP through teleconference regularly. Alumni in U.S.A will be providing funds for infrastructural developments of COEP
and creating better facilities for students. Recently, COEP Foundation, USA started two projects namely, Webguru and Websetu.

§ Every year we organise ‘Silver Jubilee Celebration’ of pass outs as a reunion. They interact with each other and also share their experiences with current students.
§ We publish Annual Bulletin called ‘INFOCOEPIAN’ in which we highlight achievements of Alumni, students and news from COEP and Association.
§ In doing these activities Alumni Association always receive help and support from the Director and the Faculty.
§ Alumni Association started a process of establishing their Regional Centres in Metrocities in India and some places in U.S.A. Recently, alumni Asso. subcentres are established at Nashik and Bangalore. COEP Foundation chapters are started at various places in USA namely; Silicon Valley, Philadelphia, New Jersy, Chicago, New York, Connecticut, etc.
§ Alumni Association has recently launched ‘Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre’ to develop Entrepreneurial skills in the students. Nine students as their first Entrepreneurial venture - ‘Bean Bags’ were successfully manufactured and sold. It is the first of its kind in the Pune City. This activity is now taken under Student Alumni Co-ordination Cell (SACC).
The Cell aims at forging a mentorship between Alumni who are successful entrepreneurs
and to motivate the students to take up entrepreneurship as their career goal.
§ Alumni Association collects donations for the purpose of Infrastructural and laboratory developments, for instituting scholarships to the students and to
help student associations of COEP.
§ SESQUICENTENARY CELEBRATION (COEP Completing 150 years) was organized in
the year 2004 and Alumni Association actively supported various workshops, seminars,
symposiums held in each department. Many Alumni in India and Abroad enthusiastically
participated in it.
§ Hon’ble President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam visited COEP Campus on 1st Feb. 2005 on the occasion of Sesquicentenary Main Function.
§ Mr. Sandeep Johri, Chairman, COEP Charitable Foundation, USA will be helping COEP to have collaborations with the prestigious Universities abroad.
§ Alumni Association is launching Mentorship Programme for F.Y.B.Tech. students. The mentors will be Senior Alumni Entrepreneurs, Consultants, Industrialists and Senior Industrial Personnels. The idea is to attach 2-3 students to each mentor according to their disciplines so as to establish rapport with them and have future carrier guidance etc.
§ COEP Foundation has introduced ‘Techno-Craft Booth Competition’ as a joint project between COEP students and alumni. 10teams of 20 students and 10 alumni each will talk on field on Innovative novel booth/model based on a central theme. § Alumni Fest 2008-a Global Reunion of Alumni has been organized on 19th & 20th October, 2008 at COEP. The detailed programme is available on the Alumni Asso & Foundation websites.
The mission of the Alumni Association of College of Engineering, Pune is to reach, engage and serve all alumni and present students by networking with one another to foster a life-long intellectual and emotional connection between the college and its alumni.
The Association serves the need of COEP alumni for leadership, voluntary commitment, goodwill, financial support, enhancing industry academic collaboration and communications including public relations.
